Conditions

The following are a number of common conditions that cause people to see their
doctors and therapists for treatment.  It is the domain of licensed health care
providers to diagnose and prescribe treatment for these problems.  Myofascial
Trigger Point Therapy does not approach these problems in the same diagnostic or
treatment manner as these professions do.  As Myofascial Trigger Point Therapists
we evaluate the body for balance in its various systems.  The intent of the therapy
is to bring the body into alignment, get pressure off of nerves so that they can
function in an unimpeded manner, allow the energetic systems of the body to
become more balanced, and to help the body toward graceful movement patterns
that work with rather than against gravity.  Rather than treat the condition, we
bring balance to the body and allow it to heal itself.  A side effect of this approach
is often the alleviation of  conditions due to the self healing homeostatic
mechanisms of the body to correct its own problems when the proper self healing
atmosphere is provided.

Nurses and other health care professionals often develop pain in their low back
after lifting patients.  These types of injuries often cause pain for years until their
tender nodules are pressed and stretched away.  Of course low back pain is not
limited to nurses.  Simply lifting supplies at the office or cleaning out a closet or
attic often leads to similar aches and pains.  These people can also get relief
from trigger point therapy.
Car accidents are a huge cause of headaches of all types.  So is sitting at a
computer or driving in stop and go traffic.  Trigger Points in the neck and
shoulders send their pain into the head causing headaches, jaw, and face pain.
Trigger points even cause pain in the teeth!  It is not uncommon for a healthy
tooth to be extracted because of trigger points.  Gentle pressure and stretch to
muscles in the neck and shoulders usually relieves and often eliminates
headaches.
Hair Dressers lift their shoulders all day long and frequently complain that their
shoulders hurt.  The tight bundles of knots prove it!  People who use power tools
often feel the same.  In both cases the knots need to be pressed out with gentle
pressure and the muscles returned to their proper length by specific stretches.
Dancers tend to hurt all over and the legs and feet rank high among their
problem areas. Martial Artists seem to specialize in knee pain.  People who
stand all day waiting tables, running cash registers, and helping the public
have a lot of foot and leg complaints.  Gentle release of their trigger points
decreases their pain.  There are a host of issues that seem to complicate long
term release.  Your trigger point therapist can help identify and deal with those
things and help you on the path to wellness.
Using a computer or power tools often brings on arm pain, numbness, and
sometimes weakness.  Trigger points in the neck shoulder and forearms
tend to shorten the muscles causing pain, nerve compression, and loss of
flexibility.  Gentle pressure and stretch applied to the right areas relieves and
often stops the muscular aspects of these problems.
If you have pain and numbness down your arm you may have been told you
have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.    Sitting at a computer often causes the
muscles to knot up and put pressure on nerves.  Gentle pressure on these
knots often relieves the pain and takes pressure off of the nerve.
Trigger Points are tender knots in muscles.  They are tender when pressed
and often send pain to other areas.  They can put pressure on nerves and
joints.
This is pain that comes from trigger points.  It usually fails to go away
because the trigger point is not pressed.  Pressure on the trigger point
relieves the pain.
If you hurt everywhere you probably have been told you have Fibromyalgia.  Most
people with full body pain have a trigger points too!
This pain in the jaw often can be helped by treating your trigger points!  It often
happens after a car accident.
This is common with keyboarding.  Trigger Points compression often brings
relief!
